Spring Break has come and gone, and kids across the country have started the countdown to summer vacation. The question is, what are your kids going to do with their vacation? More importantly, what are you going to do to get your kids off the couch this summer?
If your children are naturally enthusiastic about getting off the couch and out the door, you shouldn't have any trouble convincing them to do something other than play video games and veg in front of the TV this summer. If you've been letting them do exactly that all year because they already put in a full day at school (and they deserve a break) you could have a fight on your hands!
Since sitting around all summer isn't healthy for either their physical or emotional health, what are you going to do to get them up and get them moving over their summer vacation? Here are a few suggestions from parents like you:
Take them swimming. Swimming is a great way to get a full body workout. More importantly, it's fun! Most kids are more than willing to suit up and spend a couple of hours splishing and splashing in the swimming pool. They'll love getting to hit the water, you'll love letting them burn energy, build muscle and stay fit instead of camping on the couch all day.
Sign them up for summer camp. Too much time spent sitting around the house all but begs for unhealthy snacking habits and a lack of exercise. Signing them up for summer programs and day camps will keep them busy during the day and keep them on a healthy lifestyle path over their vacation.
Hit the playground at least once a day. Kids love to crawl, climb and run on the playground during the summer, especially if they've got friends to play with. Set aside at least an hour a day to take them out and let them go.
Walk, don't ride. When the weather's nice there's no reason to spend hours sitting around in a car. Take advantage of the nice weather to walk rather than drive when you go out to run your errands. Grab a wagon if you think you're going to need room for more "stuff" than you can carry.
Go bicycle riding. Biking is a great way to get around in the summer, and kids love the opportunity to fly free on their own two wheels. Buy them a bike and teach them to ride it. They'll love it, you'll love the amount of time they spend outside burning energy, building muscle and staying fit.
Now all you have to do is remember the sunscreen...

Theme Parks & Days Out In The UK - Where To Take The Kids This Summer Holidays
School summer holidays are approaching, whether you are staying in the UK or going abroad, you still need to know how to entertain the kids but fear not, below you will find some useful information about what there is and where to keep them happy and sleep well and the end of the day!
Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
There's something for everyone here, with over 100 different rides plus amazing shows. The Pepsi Max Big One is here, which is Europe's tallest rollercoaster standing at 235ft and has over one mile of twists and turns taking you to speeds of 87mph. Although I have been I was too scared to go on this one. My husband loved it!
Madam Tussauds.
Here you can rub shoulders with your favourite stars, sports heros and much more. If you are planning a trip into London, this is definately one place to go.
Chessington World of Adventures.
We went there late last year and it rained all day long! But even the weather didn't stop us having a good day out. My daughter loved it. There is plenty to dall for all ages and they were finishing off the Sea Life section which is now open (unfortnately we couldnt see it but is on our list next time!).
London Zoo.
Ok it's been a few years since I last went (about 10 actually!) but London Zoo remains one of the best animal education places you can visit. There is much more to do than just look at the animals. Some you can interact with, there are exhibitions & conservation projects.
The Tower of London.
The Tower of London is almost a thousand years old and is quite honestly one of the most impressive castles in the country. It used to be a prison, fortress and Royal home. I remember going on a school trip and I enjoyed it - ok there are no huge roller coasters but if you child likes castles and has an interest in history they will love it here.
Tutankhamun Exhibition
This is another one for history lovers. Tag it onto a day in London, well worth a look.
Thorpe Park.
Although there is plenty to do for really little ones, this is a theme park really for the older child and adults! There are some amazing rides here, my favourite being the log flume - hang onto your hat! This is a great day out, you probably wont have time to do it all, there is so much there!
Cadbury World.
What can I say - this is my heaven! Chocoholics everywhere will enjoy coming here. It's fun, educational and you get tp try chocolates!!
Alton Towers.
With it's own castle, hotel and water park this is somewhere you may want to go for a weekend rather than just one day so that you can see as much of it as you can. It has some of the best 'take your breath away' rides - scariest for me is Oblivion, although I did go on it again & again!
The London Dungeon.
The most horrible parts of our history is brought back to life here - I would not recommend small children come here, some of it scared me, however for the older children it is great... just keep an eye over your shoulder!
Lego Land Windsor
Great for little ones, up to the age of 12 I think. They will love this place, full of colour and every childs favourite Lego! Lots of things for them to get up to here with interactive rides and shows.
Lots to keep you busy for the 6 week break!

Day at Horton Park Childrens Farm
Welcome to my first Blog on days out with the kids, this i hope should give you some ideas and info on entertaining your little one's instead of sitting in front of the telly or complaining their so bored during the holidays or weekends.
I took my three kids, Hayley aged 8,Frankie aged 7 and Charlie aged 4 to Horton Park Children's Farm in march. The farm is in Horton lane Epsom Surrey KT19 8PT telephone no. 01372 743984
which is open daily from 10am til 6pm. The entrance price wasn't too expensive at £5.95 per child (2 and over) and each paying child can bring in one adult for just £2.50 and extra adults are £5.95 each so for us 4 it was £20.35 and we had good half day there and could easily spend the whole day there without getting bored or running out of things to do and see.
At Horton park there is a very big soft play for the kids to expore while you can sit down with a cup of tea from the choice full cafe. Once the kids have burt a degee of energy you can move out to the farm where you can see and touch a large variety of animals from sheep, pigs, cow, goats to a llama called jack. The farm has a lot of small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits which you can climb into their pen and stroke.
By then you all should have worked up an appitite where the tea room should help with hot and cold meals, snacks and drinks but if you prefer you can bring you own food and enjoy a picinc.
Around the farm there are many different type of play equipment that should ware the little ones out. I will defently be taking the kids back in the summer, i really recommend it.
